Dual Mode Tunnel Boring Machine

The second Dual-mode tunnel boring machines: Earth Pressure Balance (EPB) and Slurry Balance excavation modes. In situations where the stability of the excavation face is poor or when dealing with highly water-saturated soft soil, soft rock, gravel, or heterogeneous strata, the EPB mode can be employed to improve the flow and waterproofing of the excavated material. Conversely, in scenarios with high ground water or strict surface control requirements, the slurry balance mode can be used for construction.

When the excavation surface has poor stability or is soft soil, soft rock, gravel and uneven hard and soft strata with more water, the soil pressure balance shield mode can be used for digging, so that the cut slag obtains mobility and impermeability. When the excavation surface is water-rich or contains sand pebbles, the mud-water balance mode of construction can be adopted. The equipment is cost-effective and economical, meeting the demand for flexible use in construction.
